Homeland Dems Demand Records from Noem Following Bombshell Corruption Report
(WASHINGTON) — Today, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Ranking Member of the Committee on Homeland Security, and Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-MI), Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Oversight, Investigations & Accountability sent a letter to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem demanding documents following new reporting detailing alleged abuses of power, conflicts of interest, and mismanagement at the Department involving the Secretary and her “close associate,” Corey Lewandowski.
Recent reporting described a pattern of misconduct, including the reported firing of a U.S. Coast Guard pilot after the Secretary’s blanket was left behind on a flight, as well as concerns about DHS spending, disaster aid delays, and Lewandowski’s role directing personnel and contracting decisions while remaining a private-sector employee.
“These reports indicate you control the Department with a level of conceit, capriciousness, and cruelty rivaling the Queen of Hearts,” the Ranking Members wrote. “You are unfit to lead, and you should resign immediately.”
The Committee is seeking documents related to the blanket incident and any resulting personnel actions; Secretary Noem’s travel, flight logs, and lodging costs since January 20, 2025; Corey Lewandowski’s financial disclosures and government time records; and any documentation regarding the issuance of a government badge or firearm to Lewandowski.
