Nadler, Thompson & Maloney Request DOJ, DHS IGs Investigate Deployment of Border Patrol Snipers at Funeral for George Floyd
(WASHINGTON) – In response to reports that FBI surveillance aircraft and U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Border Patrol Tactical Unit (BORTAC) personnel, including sniper teams, were deployed to Pearland, Texas to surveil the funeral service of George Floyd, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), Homeland Security Committee Chairman Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), and Oversight and Reform Committee Chairwoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY) sent a letter requesting that the Department of Justice and Department of Homeland Security Inspectors General include these allegations in their ongoing investigation into the Trump Administration's use of force against peaceful protestors in Washington D.C., Portland, Oregon, and elsewhere around the country.
In their letter, the Members wrote, “There remains little doubt that this Administration’s approach needs to be adjusted to reflect the reality our country is confronting. Congress and Americans across the country remain concerned that the Administration continues to deploy police bent on monitoring and policing its political adversaries and using federal law enforcement in a manner that actually seeks conflict.”
