Chairman Thompson to Lead Trip to Southern Border, Examining CBP Infrastructure and Meeting with Stakeholders
(WASHINGTON) – Tomorrow, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, will lead a trip to the southern border to examine Customs and Border Protection (CBP) processing centers, ports of entry, and border security technology. Joining Chairman Thompson on the trip will be Rep. Xochitl Torres Small (D-NM), Chairwoman of the Subcommittee on Oversight, Management, and Accountability, and Rep. Veronica Escobar (D-TX).
Along with examining CBP facilities and resources in El Paso, TX and Columbus, NM, Members will be meeting with local immigrant advocacy groups and borderland stakeholders.
Chairman Thompson said, “The only way we will know the most effective ways to invest taxpayer dollars is by working with real facts. That’s why it is crucial we see firsthand the situation on the ground at the border so we have a full and accurate understanding of our current border security operations – and how best to bolster them.”
