Chairwoman Rice to Lead Committee on Homeland Security Trip to Rio Grande Valley to View Migrant Conditions at the Border

(WASHINGTON) – This Friday, Rep. Kathleen Rice (D-NY), Chairwoman of the Committee on Homeland Security’s Border Security, Facilitation, and Operations Subcommittee, will lead a committee member trip to the Rio Grande Valley to examine the migrant conditions at the border. The group will visit CBP facilities around McAllen, Texas, including a Border Patrol station, processing center, holding facility, and port of entry – in addition to a Department of Health and Human Services shelter.

Chairwoman Rice released the following statement on the trip:

“Over the past several weeks we’ve seen horrific reports of the inhumane treatment and conditions that migrants have endured at the border. Meanwhile, the administration has continued to push anti-immigrant policies that have hurt migrants, endangered asylum seekers and exacerbated the humanitarian crisis. This is unacceptable. I am leading this trip in hopes that we can work together on solutions that are humane, effective, and uphold our American values.”
