Chairman Thompson Statement on Additional Allegations Against Border Patrol in Lawsuit from Haitian Migrants
(WASHINGTON) – Today, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security, released the following statement on additional allegations made against U.S. Border Patrol in Del Rio, Texas in a lawsuit filed by Haitian migrants.
“The allegations in this lawsuit – including new claims that Border Patrol agents used horse reins as whips on Haitian migrants – are appalling. It is also troubling that these allegations run counter to what senior CBP officials have told Congress about what transpired in Del Rio. I urge the Department of Homeland Security to include these allegations in their ongoing investigation into the mistreatment of migrants and demand that those responsible be held accountable. We cannot tolerate the inhumane treatment of migrants.”
