Ranking Member Thompson Endorses Impeachment of Kristi Noem
(WASHINGTON) – Today, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Ranking Member of the Committee on Homeland Security, announced he is endorsing the effort to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem (H.Res. 996):
“Since taking office one year ago, Kristi Noem has established a corrupt culture at the Department of Homeland Security - conducting herself as though she is above the law and directing the DHS workforce to act similarly. Never has this been clearer than after the tragic killing of Renee Good this month.
“She has also wantonly enriched herself and her associates at taxpayer expense. She ignores the laws Congress has enacted, openly defies court orders, and roundly rejects Congressional oversight. She has repeatedly abused her power and violated her oath of office, endangering the security of the United States, its people, and our institutions of government.
“Therefore, we must build a record and begin the process of impeachment. It is not a remedy we pursue lightly, but it is also a duty we cannot ignore. Be assured that accountability is coming.”
