(WASHINGTON) – Today, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Ranking Member of the Committee on Homeland Security, released the below statement on the 24th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attacks. Ranking Member Thompson will also co-lead a bipartisan site visit to Ground Zero and the 9/11 Memorial Museum in New York City today.
“Today we mark the 24th anniversary of the deadliest terrorist attack in our nation’s history by traveling in a bipartisan capacity to Ground Zero and the 9/11 Memorial Museum. It will be an opportunity to remember the lives we lost and recognize the bravery and sacrifice of the first responders. Now, nearly a quarter-century later, we must remind ourselves that vigilance and preparedness are essential to our security and that together we carry a shared responsibility to ensure a tragedy like September 11th never happens again. We ‘never forget’ to honor the victims, survivors, and thousands of other Americans impacted by working to keep our homeland safe and secure.”
