Ranking Member Thompson Statement on Kristi Noem Endangering Nation’s Aviation Security
(WASHINGTON) – Today, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Ranking Member of the Committee on Homeland Security, released the below statement on news reports that Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem gravely endangered aviation security when she suddenly changed airport security checkpoint screen procedures and then disregarded a DHS Officer of Inspector General report informing her of the security risks:
“It should enrage all Americans that Kristi Noem continues to do so much damage to our national security. Since day one, she has put politics – and her own image – far and above the safety and security of the American people. Not only does she let ICE terrorize our communities and has withheld disaster recovery funding, she is also endangering the nation’s aviation security. She must resign, be fired, or be impeached. In the meantime, the Inspector General must be allowed to brief us on his findings and TSA must brief us on whether and how it has closed the security gaps caused by Kristi Noem.”
