Ranking Member Thompson Statement on Supreme Court Ruling on Elections
(WASHINGTON) – Today, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Ranking Member of the Committee on Homeland Security, released the following statement on the Supreme Court ruling against the Trump administration and its attempt to sow chaos in the midterm elections:
“Today's Supreme Court decision is the only decision supported by the constitution and the law. To be clear: by design, the President has no role in elections, and he cannot on whim direct the Postal Service to exercise authorities it does not have. Any attempt by President Trump to manipulate the midterms by taking over elections not only offends the constitution and the law, it offends the most basic principles of democracy.
“The American people see Trump for what he is - a total failure who has to cheat to get what he wants. Despite today's decision, the President will undoubtedly continue his crusade and we will be ready to defend the Constitution and the law when he does.”
