Ranking Member Thompson Statement on Supreme Court Decision on Trump’s Muslim Ban
(WASHINGTON) – Today, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Ranking Member of the Committee on Homeland Security, released the following statement on news that the Supreme Court upheld Trump’s Muslim Ban on a narrow 5-4 decision:
“The Supreme Court’s upholding of President Trump’s Muslim Ban sets a dangerous precedent. Trump’s Muslim Ban does not make us safer and flies in the face of our values and the Constitution. After having President Trump in the White House for 17 months, its clearer than ever that his Muslim Ban was motivated by racism and bigotry. President Trump has nothing but disdain for the diversity and legal immigration that has made our country so great. I urge my colleagues in Congress to come together and work to end this ban.”
