Ranking Member Thompson: Trump Puts Loyalty Over National Security with Dangerous DNI Appointment
(WASHINGTON) – Today, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Ranking Member of the Committee on Homeland Security, released the below statement after President Trump named deeply unqualified housing official William Pulte to be Acting Director of National Intelligence:
“Stunningly, President Trump has managed to find someone even less qualified and more politically compromised than Tulsi Gabbard to oversee America’s intelligence agencies.
“Congress wrote specific qualifications for the Director of National Intelligence for a reason: this is one of the most consequential national security positions in the Federal Government. Mr. Pulte falls embarrassingly short of that standard. He has absolutely no national security or intelligence experience and his only claim to relevance is his participation in President Trump’s effort to weaponize the government against his political enemies.
“This appointment trivializes the intelligence that helps keep the homeland secure and it is a dangerous reminder that the President is more than willing to place personal loyalty ahead of our national security and the safety of the American people.”
