Ranking Members Raskin and Thompson Issue Statement Following Fifth Voluntary Transcribed Interview with Border Patrol Sector Chief
(WASHINGTON) - Committee on Oversight and Accountability Ranking Member Jamie Raskin, and Committee on Homeland Security Ranking Member Bennie G. Thompson, issued the following statement after the Committees’ voluntary transcribed interview with U.S. Border Patrol Agent Scott Good, Chief Patrol Agent of the El Paso Sector:
“For the fifth time, Republicans have taken valuable time away from a Border Patrol Sector Chief only to have him confirm that the robust resources provided by the Biden-Harris Administration are strengthening Border Patrol agents in their mission at the southern border.
“The putative purpose of these transcribed interviews was to collect facts and evidence for assessing conditions across our southwest border. But Republicans are using them to push a pre-baked and false political narrative that they hope will gin up the MAGA base and justify their call to defund law enforcement and impeach Secretary Mayorkas.
“By denying the Administration’s progress at the U.S. border, Republicans are derailing comprehensive efforts to improve America’s immigration system and strengthen border enforcement for decades to come.”
