Rep. Thompson Statement on Immigration Reform

(WASHINGTON) - Today, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Ranking Member of the House Committee on Homeland Security, released the following statement regarding immigration reform and the President's speech on the topic this week:

I agree with the President that immigration reform is long overdue. I also realize that border security is inextricably linked to immigration matters and will be an integral part of any reform proposal. Crafting an approach that addresses security as well as humanitarian and economic concerns will be a complex undertaking. As the lead on border security for the House, the Committee on Homeland Security has done extensive oversight of the Department of Homeland Security's efforts to secure our Nation's borders. I look forward to the Committee continuing its leadership role in this legislative process as Congress and the President work together towards a comprehensive, bipartisan solution.
