Thompson Announced as Homeland Security Ranking Democrat

(WASHINGTON) – Today, the Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and the Democratic Caucus of the U.S. House of Representatives announced that Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS) will be returning as Ranking Democrat of the Committee on Homeland Security for the 113th Congress. Congressman Thompson has led the Democrats on the Committee since 2005. Congressman Thompson released the following statement on the announcement:

I am honored to be chosen to continue to lead my colleagues on this critical panel for two more years. I am hopeful that Homeland Security will continue to remain a largely bipartisan cause and aim to work with the new Republican leadership whenever there is common ground. We still have much work to be done: jurisdiction of homeland security issues still must be consolidated and the Congress has still not produced much-needed comprehensive cybersecurity legislation. I hope we can change that so the next Congress can be more productive.
