Thompson Applauds Cyberspace Solarium Commission Report

(WASHINGTON) – Today, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security, released the following statement in response to the findings and recommendations of the Cyberspace Solarium Commission:

“The Cyberspace Solarium Commission was created by Congress to review the threats facing America in cyberspace and provide strategic guidance and policy recommendations on how to defend ourselves against cyber threats.  Today, it proposed a path forward to meet the challenges in cyberspace by filling the gaps between government agencies and current authorities, and I hope Members of Congress will carefully consider and evaluate the Solarium Commission’s recommendations.

“One of my top priorities as Chairman has been securing better funding for CISA and empowering it to mature its cybersecurity and risk management capabilities.  I am eager to work with the Commission Members to codify recommendations that will help CISA grow.

“The threats to our critical infrastructure from our increasingly connected world require preparation and thoughtful action.  I commend Congressman Jim Langevin, who sits on the Committee, for his work on the Solarium Commission and look forward to further evaluating the recommendations released today.”
