Thompson Statement on Reelection as Committee on Homeland Security Chair
(WASHINGTON) – Today, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), released the following statement after being reelected as Chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security for the 117th Congress:
“It is an incredible honor to be reelected as Chairman of the Homeland Security Committee for the 117th Congress. From tackling the coronavirus and countering the rise of domestic terrorism, to continuing to secure our election systems and fixing the Trump Administration’s border security failures, our country faces daunting homeland security challenges in the months ahead.
“Next year, our Committee will also work on much needed reform for the Department of Homeland Security and ensure it is accountable and transparent to the American people. With its expanding mission, we need to put it on a path to normalcy and be sure it has good, permanent leadership to counter the threats we face. While we will have a full plate on our hands, I am confident that we will be able to work together to crush the coronavirus and build back DHS better.”
