Velázquez, Thompson, Grijalva on HUD Interference in Puerto Rico Probe
(WASHINGTON) Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), the Chairman of the Homeland Security Committee, and Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva (D-AZ), the Chairman of the Natural Resources Committee, and Rep. Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY) issued the following statement regarding news reports that the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) may have impeded an Inspector General review of whether the agency delayed hurricane relief to Puerto Rico:
“We’ve seen time and again Donald Trump’s heartless indifference and, in some cases, outright hostility to the people of Puerto Rico. Now it emerges that the HUD IG’s examination of whether HUD may have slowed aid to Puerto Rico – perhaps at the direction of the White House - was potentially meddled with by senior officials at HUD. This news adds insult to injury. We demand that Secretary Carson and his staff immediately and fully comply with the Congressionally requested IG investigation.”
