Ranking Member Thompson Demands DHS Cease Voter Intimidation Campaign
“You are ultimately responsible for actions of Department personnel and must cease these illegal tactics immediately”
(WASHINGTON) – Today, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Ranking Member of the Committee on Homeland Security, announced he sent a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin demanding the immediate cessation of Department of Homeland Security voter intimidation masquerading as law enforcement activity following news reports that DHS officers are going door-to-door in communities across America in a haphazard immigration shakedown, demanding information from individuals about immigration status and plans to vote.
“The show-of-force operations DHS law enforcement is apparently undertaking in communities across America reflect an anti-democratic departure from the mission Congress set for the Department, and serve only President Trump’s voter suppression agenda, not a legitimate enforcement objective,” Ranking Member Thompson wrote.
