Thompson, Correa, Ramirez Demand DHS Turn Over Records on Potential ICE Deployment to Polling Places

(WASHINGTON) – Today, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Ranking Member of the Committee on Homeland Security, Rep. Lou Correa (D-CA), Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Border Security & Enforcement, and Rep. Delia C. Ramirez (D-IL), Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Protection, announced they are demanding Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin produce all Department records related to the potential deployment of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Customs and Border Protection (CBP), or any other DHS law enforcement personnel to polling places for upcoming Federal elections.

The demand letter follows DHS's recent admission in Federal court that it possesses thousands of records related to the potential deployment of ICE and CBP personnel to polling places after repeatedly claiming no such plans existed. Committee Democrats are seeking the records to determine whether DHS officials misled Congress and the public.

“Despite repeated assurances from high-ranking Department officials to Democratic Committee Members that there are no plans to deploy ICE agents to polling locations, we now understand that DHS attorneys have informed a Federal court that it may have thousands of documents on the subject,” the Ranking Members said. “As Members of the Committee, we have an obligation to review those documents to ensure DHS’s compliance with the law and the veracity of the testimony we have received.”

The Ranking Members requested that DHS produce all responsive records promptly to allow Congress to conduct its oversight duty ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
