Congressional Hearing on the National Response to the Worsening Coronavirus Pandemic

(WASHINGTON) – This Wednesday, July 8th, the Committee on Homeland Security, chaired by Congressman Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), will hold a virtual hearing on the national response to the worsening coronavirus pandemic. This hearing will allow Members to question state and local leaders about the impact of COVID-19 on their communities and the failures of the Trump Administration’s response to the pandemic.  The hearing will also be an opportunity to discuss ways to improve pandemic response and better support communities across the country currently seeing sharp increases in COVID-19 cases. This hearing will be streamed live on YouTube (link below).

Congressman Thompson released the following statement on the hearing:

“By any measure, the Trump Administration’s response to the coronavirus pandemic is a continued failure. As cases continue to surge around the nation, state and local governments have been burdened with much of the response responsibility and left to make impossible choices without federal leadership. It is imperative that Congress continues its oversight during this difficult time and provide much needed guidance. This hearing will allow us to hear from a diverse panel of state and local leaders first-hand about how the coronavirus has affected their communities and how the Administration’s response efforts – or lack thereof – have impacted them.”
