Ranking Member Thompson Releases Statement After Committee Delegation to Southwest Border
(WASHINGTON) – Today, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Ranking Member of the Committee on Homeland Security, released the below statement after Committee Democrats’ delegation to the Southwest Border. The visit included a discussion of border security and immigration issues with local officials and tours of DHS border facilities in McAllen and Brownsville, Texas.
“It is clear that the Administration’s initiatives, and resources provided by Democrats, are making a difference. It is also clear that Congress must come together to invest in more border staffing, infrastructure, and technology – especially at ports of entry where the vast majority of fentanyl is trafficked. Many of the challenges we face at the border go back decades, and we need comprehensive immigration reform to ensure we have an orderly and humane immigration system.”
Ranking Member Thompson was joined on the trip by Reps. Lou Correa (D-CA), Border Security and Enforcement Subcommittee Ranking Member, Delia Ramirez (D-IL), Committee Vice Ranking Member, Seth Magaziner (D-RI), Troy Carter (D-LA), Rob Menendez (D-NJ), Glenn Ivey (D-MD), Shri Thanedar (D-MI), and Dina Titus (D-NV)
