Ranking Member Thompson Statement on Elon Musk and DOGE Gaining Access to FEMA’s Sensitive Networks
(WASHINGTON) – Today, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Ranking Member of the Committee on Homeland Security, released the below statement on President Trump allowing Elon Musk and DOGE access to FEMA’s sensitive data networks:
“FEMA is an agency that communities across the country depend on when disaster strikes. Not only does President Trump have someone running it with no experience, he has now apparently given DOGE and Elon Musk – along with Elon’s unvetted minions with questionable pasts and connections to adversaries like Russia – the keys to FEMA’s networks which contains sensitive information from grantees and the personally identifiable information of disaster victims.
“According to news reports, not only does DOGE have access to the private information of disaster victims from across the country, they have access to threat-based security plans that cities and local law enforcement share when they receive critical homeland security grants.
“This is just the latest threat to national security this week allowed by Trump and perpetrated by Elon and DOGE. Individuals without proper clearances should not be able to force their way into government networks that have sensitive information on Americans and information on our communities’ security posture. I am very concerned that this data being placed into the wrong hands could have disastrous consequences. This must stop.”
