Ranking Member Thompson: Trump's Election Assistance Commission Firings Threaten Election Security
(WASHINGTON) – Today, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Ranking Member of the Committee on Homeland Security, released the below statement after President Trump fired the two Democratic members of the bipartisan U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC), escalating his ongoing campaign to undermine confidence in American elections and continuing his purge of officials who refuse to support his election lies:
“President Trump has consistently sought to purposely undermine confidence in our elections and dismantle the institutions designed to ensure our elections are free, fair, and secure.
“The pattern is clear—the President will fire anyone who does not facilitate his lies about our nation’s elections. Whether it was firing CISA Director Chris Krebs in 2020 or now firing the EAC commissioners, President Trump has remained committed to purging the government of any voices committed to genuine election security.
“The Senate must refuse to confirm any MAGA loyalists nominated by President Trump to the EAC that would undermine the bipartisan and independent nature of it.”
