Ranking Members Thompson and Raskin Issue Statement Following Seventh Voluntary Transcribed Interview with Border Patrol Sector Chief
For A Second Time, Chief Confirms that Resources to Border Patrol Provide Greater Border Security
(WASHINGTON) – Committee on Oversight and Accountability Ranking Member Jamie Raskin, and Committee on Homeland Security Ranking Member Bennie G. Thompson, issued the following statement after the Committees’ voluntary transcribed interview with U.S. Border Patrol Agent John Modlin, Chief Patrol Agent of the Tucson Sector:
“Today’s interview marks the second time this year that Republicans have called Chief Patrol Agent Modlin to spend hours before Congress away from his duties securing the Tucson sector. Echoing his prior testimony during a public hearing, Chief Patrol Agent Modlin reaffirmed that Border Patrol continues its work to secure the border and stop illicit drugs from reaching our cities.
“With Chief Modlin’s interview, the Committees have now heard from seven Chief Patrol Agents who all explained that the robust resources provided by the Biden-Harris Administration are strengthening Border Patrol agents in their mission at the southern border. As Chief Modlin explained, the surge of new resources ensures ‘incredible situational awareness’ of efforts to unlawfully cross the border in the Tucson sector. Despite all the progress we have been hearing about, Republicans continue to waste the time of our border security officials in their fruitless effort to seek information that would justify their call to defund law enforcement and impeach Secretary Mayorkas.”
