Thompson Statement on 100 Million Vaccinations Administered and Nearly 1000 FEMA Supported Vaccination Sites Under Biden Administration

(WASHINGTON) – Today, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security, released the following statement on the announcement that the Biden Administration has overseen the administration of 100 million vaccines to the American people in just 58 days – 42 days ahead of the Administration’s goal. The Biden Administration also announced that FEMA is supporting 939 community vaccination centers and FEMA has provided more than $4.39 billion to 40 states, D.C., four tribes and five territories for expenses related to COVID-19 vaccination at 100% federal cost share.

“Today marks an incredible milestone and is a beacon of hope for our nation’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. On day one, President Biden promised to get 100 million vaccines into people’s arms in 100 days – and delivered on it 42 days ahead of schedule. We are now on pace to ensure every adult is eligible to receive a vaccine by May – an acceleration of previous estimates.

“I also want to acknowledge the 2,008 FEMA and DHS frontline workers who are providing assistance at the nearly 1,000 FEMA supported community vaccination sites across the country.  This monumental achievement could not have been made without the hard work and dedication of these men and women.

“As we celebrate this significant accomplishment, we must continue to work together to tackle this pandemic for good. I encourage the public  to continue to wear a mask, social distance, and get the vaccine when it is their turn. Hope is here.”
