Thompson: Watchdog Report Tells Us Trump’s Wall Was Never About Security

(WASHINGTON) – Today, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security, released the following statement on a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Office of the Inspector General (OIG) report out today on U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s mismanagement and poor planning of President Trump’s border wall construction. 

“It’s clear from this report that CBP’s main priorities are to maximize wall construction and to please the President in the run up to the election. In fact, CBP prioritized building in places where its own analysis indicated there was lower risk. This shows us that CBP’s distracting effort to build the President’s wall was never truly about border security – but is really just an expensive scam fulfill a campaign promise and balloon the President’s ego. As I have said for the past four years, Trump’s wall is a waste and will not secure the border.”
